How do I get to the top of Google?

Climbing the SERPs Search Engine listings are the #1 way to generate website traffic.
Search Engine listings are the #1 way to generate website traffic. However, there are now more web pages in the world than there are people, so even the best-designed site offering the greatest products or services will not be found if nobody knows it exists!

With Search Engines receiving an estimated 90% of all Internet traffic, to be successful, it's important that your website is being found when potential customers come searching for products or services like yours.

So your probably asking yourself now how do I improve my site's interaction with both users and search engines?

Over the next few posts, we are going to look at what you need to consider to build your rank.

Let's start with Content.

I think we have all heard the phrase 'Content is King', well it's true.  The content of your page (website) is what will make it worthy of a search result, and in-turn your position.  This is what the 'people' have come to see, so to speak, and is therefore very important to search engines.

So what is GOOD content?  Firstly, it must supply a demand and secondly, it must be linkable.

Your content can consist of a video, which by the way Google is loving more and more each day, it can be an image but, give that image a title-rich name, for instance, you're a travel company promoting holidays in London and you have a picture of a couple taking a selfie in a park in London, that you want to use on your website.  Name that picture couple-holidays-in-London.

Content can also be sound and of course text.  The best content is the one that does the best job of fulfilling those supply and demand needs.

When it comes to SEO, there is no difference between the best or worst content on the internet if it is not linkable.  If people can not link to it then search engines will be unlikely to rank it, resulting in the content's lack of ability to drive traffic to the given website.

Some more on-page factors to consider to help with SEO ranking are:

  1. Title tags
  2. URL structure
